Azerbaijani-American flutist, Dr. Jeiran Hasan enjoys a multi-faceted career as an active and versatile musician and educator.  She serves as the Assistant Professor of Flute and Elementary Music Education at the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University where is also a member of the faculty quintet, Logan Canyon Winds. Jeiran is the principal flutist of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony (IL)  where she was a featured soloist, performing Anze Rozman's “Phoenix for Flute and Orchestra” in November 2019. Dr. Hasan has won many awards and has been a prizewinner and finalist in over 20 competitions. She holds her Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Iowa and master’s and bachelor’s from the Cleveland Institute of Music. 

 

Interested in promoting music of the Caucasus, Hasan wrote her doctoral essay on flute music of Azerbaijan. Jeiran was accepted as a two-time scholarship winner of the Critical Language Scholarship Program through the US State Department, which sent her to Baku, Azerbaijan to further continue her musical and linguistic studies. As a representative of the CLS Program and her active involvement of the Azerbaijani language, Jeiran also won the Azerbaijani Society of America’s annual cultural scholarship and was selected to participate in the Global Ties Alumni Conference as the Azerbaijani representative in Minneapolis in March 2022 . She is currently working on a solo album of living female Azerbaijani composers and serves as the musical contributor for Caspian Vibes, a journal for and on behalf of the Azerbaijani American diaspora.

 

Dr. Hasan is an active member of the National Flute Association and a member of the Diversity and Inclusion, International Liaison, and the Myrna Brown International Scholarship committees. Additionally, she is a member of the Flute New Music Consortium, New Music Chicago, and serves on the board of the Utah Flute Association. Passionate about serving students from traditionally marginalized communities and providing educational and career opportunities, Jeiran co-founded and serves as a mentor for the National Flute Association’s Young Artist Mentorship Program.

Dr. Louise Chan, a native, of Ottawa, Canada, is a versatile pianist with experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral keyboardist. She is a founding member of the Blue Violet Duo with violinist Kate Carter, and their duo has enjoyed repeat performances at the Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series. Their critically acclaimed debut album, American Souvenirs, was featured as WFMT 98.7's Album of the Day. The duo’s sophomore album is currently in post-production and will be released by Centaur Records. Dr. Chan is dedicated to performing new music; recent performances in her home base of Chicago have included appearances at the Ear Taxi Festival and the George Crumb Festival, and with Fulcrum Point New Music Project and The Zafa Collective. She was the former principal pianist for the Madison Symphony Orchestra, and she continues to perform as an orchestral keyboardist with various ensembles in the Midwest.

As a music educator, Dr. Chan maintains a busy studio of young and adult piano students at the Music Institute of Chicago. Her students have been prizewinners at local and state competitions. She is a member of the Royal Conservatory of Music’s College of Examiners, and travels throughout North America as an adjudicator. She has served on the faculties of the Chicago Chamber Music Festival and the Chicago Duo Piano Festival. Her degrees are from the Eastman School of Music and Northwestern University.
